Kajak Sport make replacement kayak hatch covers in 2 different styles and each style has 2 material options. There are some considerations to make when choosing your hatch cover, as some covers will only fit on certain kayaks.

To begin with, here are the 4 different types on Kajak Sport hatch cover available:

Kajak Sport Original Rubber Hatch Cover

The Kajak-Sport original hatch cover series is made of real rubber. 100% watertight hatch cover solution is created for the most demanding “expedition” use, when the cover is used in aberrant conditions and when the maximum reliability is essential. The cover is equipped with both inside and outside leash holders. Its material is extremely durable and long-lived and fully UV-protected.

These have the most "stretch" allowing them to fit a wider range of kayak rims. This is good on rotomolded plastic kayaks, as the rim can very due to manufacturing tolerances. However, it makes them more difficult to put on, and they are the heaviest and most expensive option. We do not stock these as we believe the LRC is a better option in almost all cases.

Kajak Sport Click-On Hatch Cover

The kajak-sport click-on cover is made by combining two different materials together. The rigid centre part reaches to top of the hatch rim and ensures that the cover cannot be pushed inside due to the force of a wave. Soft edge seals and attach properly to the hatch rim and gives good watertight contact between the cover and the rim. The harder middle section makes these easier to use than the original rubber hatch, as you can put weight on the centre to push them on, without the hatch cover stretching. 

As they do not have as much stretch to seal abnormal sizes these are often recommended on boats that use the black plastic Kajak sport rim molded onto the kayak (most commonly found on composite boats). It is usually fine to use them on smaller and round hatches on plastic boats though. We do not stock these as we find the LRC-HT a better option in most situations.

Kajak Sport LRC Hatch Cover 

The kajak sport LRC (Lightweight Rubber Cover) range is lighter than the Original rubber hatch covers and has nicer surface finish. The lighter weight can easily be noticed as LRC kayak hatches actually float! The profile of the LRC series is identical to the original rubber covers, so they have equal fitting properties to various rims, however, the original rubber cover will stretch more thanks to the superior elasticity properties of the material. The LRC material is fully UV and weather protected for long use. As they stretch more than the hard top version, these are ideal for plastic rotomolded boats.

Kajak Sport LRC-HT Hatch Cover

‘HT’ describes the hard top in the centre of the cover, this makes the hatch cover easier to "click" onto the kayak. On the LRC-HT, the rigid centre area is smaller than the "Click-On" style, which increases stretch ability of the cover for an improved seal and allows more variation on the accuracy of measurement of the rim. As with the "Click-On", these are often recommended on boats that use the black plastic Kajak sport rim molded onto the kayak (most commonly found on composite boats). It is usually fine to use them on the smaller round hatches on plastic boats though.
